VLAWMO has committed to completing Sustainable Lake Management Plans (SLMPs) for each of the lakes within it's boundary.  The first lake to have an SLMP completed is Birch Lake in White Bear Lake. VLAWMO staff are currently completing the SLMP report for Tamarack Lake in White Bear Township.  In 2009, staff will begin work on the SLMP for Gilfillan Lake in North Oaks.

An SLMP involves the study of a lake's ecology as well as the subwatershed to determine the quality of the lake and what steps should be taken to protect and/or enhance it.
