Venue: MnDOT Training and Conference Center - Room #5

The Smart Salting Level 2 workshop will be held on Wednesday, April 26. This half- day training sponsored by the MPCA and Ramsey-Washington Metro Watershed District, offers the opportunity for supervisory staff including public works managers, street superintendents and other lead staff to review their current best management practices and salt use for possible savings. Each attendee will use the Winter Maintenance Assessment tool (WMAt) during the class.

The class is provided free of charge through a 319 grant and is presented by Fortin Consulting staff. The WMAt was developed over several years, using the input of a technical team that involved Minnesota Department of Transportation employees, county supervisors, city maintenance managers and private applicators. This training can be used to address the education requirement of MS4 entities.

During the training, participants will focus on their own salting practices and future plans. Tool outputs are individualized based on attendees’ current and future practices. At the end of the class, attendees will know how to use the WMAt and have ideas for how to use the reports in budget planning and for communication with public officials or others who provide funding for maintenance work.  The training also explains the steps required for your city/organization to become Level 2 MPCA certified.

This workshop will be held on Wednesday, April 26 from 8 AM-12:30 PM at the MnDOT Training and Conference Center, 1900 County Road I West, Room #5, in Shoreview. Lunch will be provided.
