VLAWMO will be hosting several workshops this winter and spring to help property owners with how they can help protect our water resources in their own yard.
Fish Management for Dummies Workshop will be held March 12 from 8:30am-1pm at the North Oaks Community Room - 100 Village Center Drive, North Oaks. Two speakers will be on hand to discuss hoe fish affect a lake and methods to manage them. Steve McComas (The Lake Detective) and Dr. Przemek Bajer from the University of Minnesota will speak at this event. It is a free event and refreshments will be served. Please register by March 4th.
Kristine Jenson will be teaching a Raingarden Workshop on March 30, 2011 from 6:30pm-8:30pm. It will be held at the training room in the Vadnais Heights Fire Station located at 800 East County Rd E. This workshop will cover the basics of why raingardens are important to incorporate into your landscape and go over the basics of how to build one. The cost for the class is $10. Participants will receive a copy of The Blue Thumb Guide to Raingardens ($18 value) AND will also receive 2 hours of time from Kristine to meet on your site (within the VLAWMO Boundary) to help with your specific needs and follow up as your project moves along.
Kristine will also be teaching a Shoreline Restoration class on April 13, 2011 from 6:30pm-8:30pm. This class will also be held at the Vadnais Heights Fire Station training room. This class is for property owners who want to learn about using native plants to protect their shoreline and enhance water quality in lakes and streams. The cost of the class is $10. Participants will receive a copy of Lakescaping for Wildlife and Water Quality($20 value) AND will receive 2 hours of time from Kristine to meet on your site (within the VLAWMO boundary) to help with your specific needs and follow up as your project moves along.
